JFC THANK YOU! If one more person tells me to feel shit and then fight, I'm going to fight them. I GET IT, at some point, I'm going to have to stop being a child pouting in the corner because 51% of the country is stupid as fuck, but not today, or tomorrow, or maybe even next week.

Pick yourself up if you want, but Imma stay on the floor for a bit thanks.

I am with you on the Mary Oliver quote, who I love by the way! On any other day! But do we have to use her as a balm to cover our open gaping wounds? And I’m supposed to cross the aisle hands in hand with Kyle Rittenhouse, skipping down the street? Not gonna happen.

15 million fewer people (I'm saying men) voted for Kamala than voted for Biden. That number was verified on NPR today so I figure it's pretty correct. Yesterday I was at a gas station getting my car inspection sticker updated––this is a gas station in a fancy part of town, but they are really good liberal guys that run the place so I go there every year for my inspection. While there an older lady (maybe 65-ish) came in about something––she had on casual fancy clothes, freshly pedicured and wearing pearls. She said to the guy behind the counter that she had voted for Harris, but knew she wouldn't win because none of the men in her social circle were brave enough to vote for a woman no matter how liberal their politics so most of them simply didn't vote. And I know that's a microencapsulation, but golly does that ring true for me. Yesterday numb, today angry tears.

I totally hear this but honestly, anecdotally at least, I know it was women too — all those examples I gave came from white women who just “couldn’t get there” with Harris. White women voted for Trump more than they did the dem candidate, it’s alarming and enraging but also I think we have so much work to do with our own internalized misogyny/double standards and also our collective apathy 😞

Thank you so much for using your scorching intelligence to lay waste to this bullshit. The lack of compassion for one's fellow citizens in this demand for the perfect candidate has driven me insane.

Fuck yeah to all of this. I know Toni told us "...this is the time when artists go to work" but it ain't happening today. Or this week. Or, I don't know when. The opt-out protest vote handed a convicted rapist the keys to the kingdom. All bets are off.

Agree with you 1000% on all counts. Thank you for making me laugh for the first time since yesterday with “raw-milk-fortified fingers” and “issues Santas.” And btw, is that little Jenn giving us the finger?

Thank you for expressing what I don't have the words to express. The grief wall on Facebook yesterday just felt so pathetic and useless and did not satisfy my need to feel less alone in this surreal moment. This post was what I needed.

My therapist today told me something that made sense, half of America has "Big Daddy" syndrome, thinking Trump will just take care of all the problems simply because he said so, it's the easy way out, let's remove all responsibility and hand it over on a silver platter to this guy.....they are in for a rude awakening as we all know here on this substack, so disenchanted with our lack of critical thinking skills, and not understanding in a democracy change takes TIME, deliberation, EVERYONE sitting at the table contributing to the conversation. I no longer have room to make the ignorant men AND women in the world comfortable by editing my voice and opinion. Thank you JFC for the resounding call out on the historical fuckery we've just witnessed.

He STOLE the election using the exact same qualities he also demeans. His Big Daddy win was only successful because he cultivated the myth of the very bad mommy. In comparison to the fallen woman, he can come in as the only person who "understands" your in pain. Infantilizing women while propping up a pretend myth of motherhood is why his platform is so dangerous and powerful. White people voted for him because of Christian fundamentalism that relies heavily on this myth. We are, it seem, a deeply religious nation who refuse to believe that we are responsible for our own futures.

completely agree with this.

I, for one, have room in my heart for boiling rage at both the millions of Trump supporters and also rage at blasé, checked-out Trump dislikers.

Maybe he still wins if we all actually had shown up to vote. But we made it too easy for him.

Seeing him ascend the throne like a legitimate leader and all that trash he's taking with him. HIs 2016 crew was no bargain but they were seasoned political professionals who honored the code of law. We need campaign finance reform - this election was impacted by the influx of cash from Elon Musk (follow that money trail from Peter Thiel to JD Vance) running that trans ad 30,000 times - I mean, jfc. It's brainwashing. Fear and anger really do trump joy and hope.
